Funny Bear Test

A woman was out on her first polar bear hunt when she heard a noise. Nervously, she turned around to see a huge bear 100 yards due east of her. Panic stricken, she ran due north. Having covered about 100 yards, she regained her composure, stopped and turned to shoot the bear. She was now facing due south and the bear had not moved.

Now the question: What colour was the bear?
